This is the second MUST KNOW Verb. It is an IR ending, but like the last one, it is irregular, meaning the endings are different than they are for most endings.

j' ai   I have

tu as    You have

il/elle a    He/she has

nous avons    We have

vous avez  You(formal) have

ils ont    they have

In french, to say, "I am hungry/thristy" you say, I have hunger, and I have thirst. As well as when stating how old you are, you say I have other than I am. I have 13 years. Not I am 13 years.
