The french all greet each other by saying *bonjour*. Bonjour can mean hello or good day. They also may ask for the other person's name if they want to meet them. "Comment t'appelles-tu?* This means "What is your name." If you were asked this question, you would respond, *Je m'apelle ________" The blank spot is for your name. Translated it says "my name is." If your talking to someone you know, you may say *salut* which means hello or good bye. Review: Bonjour = Hello/good day Comment t'appelles-tu? = What is your name? Je m'appelle = My name is Salut = Hello/goodbye au revoir=good-bye
You may want to ask how the person who your talking to is doing. Are they doing ok? To ask you say *çava* this means how are you, but you can also return the saying, meaning that you're ok. you can also respond, *çava bien* I am good, or *çava mal* I am bad. çava = How are you?/Im fine çava bien = I am good çava mal= I am bad(bad/sad mood) You can also ask: comment vas-tu?= how are you doing?(i) comment allez-vous?= how are you doing?(f) (i) is for informal (so with friends) (f) in this occasion is for formal (older people, or respected people) Now its time to learn about you and others. This will be helpful when asking a question back to the person, or asking if their talking about you. moi= me toi=you et= and
monsieur= Mr. madame= Mrs. mademoiselle= Miss
You can add the and (et) than me or you (moi/toi) to ask a question. So if someone asks, "Comment t'appelles-tu?" and you answer"Je m'apelle ________" you can ask the other person what their name is. So you ask after giving your name, "et toi?" (and you?) | |
